In the Voracious Goddess curse, you eventually wind up at 244:
the Voracious Goddess statue, which tells you to draw 148 +:flag_curse_sm: (gem)
. In our game, we found one of the gems early
in the dungeon at location 4 on the map
, so we drew
157. We got punished pretty badly for that and were told clearly that we needed a second gem.

Unfortunately, we had no idea where to go after that. We searched all around the area, and even backtracked all the way to
the dungeon where we found the first gem.
Still nothing.

I found on BoardGameGeek that we weren't the only ones getting completely stuck at this point:

What we were missing was that we had to
go back to the Voracious Goddess statue, then draw a 148 card without adding the +:flag_curse_sm: (gem)
. We're were well aware that you could choose not to add the :flag_curse_sm: modifier, but assumed that it would be worthless or harmful. In our particular case,
we thought that trying to do the "Offer" action with nothing to offer would get us punished even worse than with just one gem, so we didn't try it. It seemed counterintuitive that giving nothing after we just gave something would reward us.

Is there anything that could be done about this (via errata, the 2nd edition upgrade pack, etc) so that all these players don't get completely stuck, especially on a supposed intro curse? The first thread has two suggestions:

  • Adding the following text to the end of 157: "Maybe you should try to approach the Goddess statue with open arms."

  • Flat out tell the players to take a 148 card without the :flag_curse_sm:

There was also the suggestion to
Make 148 a Satchel item card
.

Can anything be done via errata (or 2nd edition upgrade) to avoid multiple groups like ours getting stuck and punished just for finding an important item early on in the game?
