Going from one threat to another.

I have completed a threat and survived. I quick check and I read somewhere that you have to restore everything. Is this correct? I understand if you had died then yes you would start all over again. If you are successful do you loose all your buildings, production. defence, knowledge and influence points too? Does the destiny chart have to start from the beginning again? This seems harsh as you have worked hard to get these things during the threat. Any feedback would be welcome.
